In late April we arranged a publication seminar for our members. The focus was not on pushing our collegues to publish even more, but to reflect on the alarming changes that are unfolding in the international academic publication market. The huge increase in volume of published articles, in retracted articles, and in predatory journals all represent challenges to our members as authors. The goal of the seminar was to increase the awareness of these threats and to help authors to avoid some potential pitfalls. The seminar was led by professor Marco Seeber at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Marco has followed the international academic publication market for several years in his research, and he draws an oblique picture of the nature of academic publishing. His message to researchers is to be careful and avoid publishing your work in outlets that are not meeting quality standards.
